I love shooting wide. I always believe that by only getting close to your subject will you be able to capture the personality and character of what you are shooting. However, when I was commissioned to cover the award winner American rock band Imagine Dragons, I almost left my favourite super wide-angle lens (Tokina 10-17mm) behind.
As usual, I was trying to pack as light as possible for the quick trip to Bangkok for this exclusive concert held at the poolside of the new Marriott Marquis Queen's Park hotel. I was certain the three regular lenses that I carried (16-35mm/f2.8, 24mm-105/f4 and the 70-200mm/f2.8 and a 1.4x converter), would be enough.
Luckily my Thinktank Shapeshifter bag could take all the gear (two Canon bodies, two strobes, power pack, the three lenses, MBP and external hard disk), and left me space for another lens. Without hesitation I packed the Tokina along. I'm glad I did, for that was almost the only lens I used that night. What do you think? These images were all shot with the Tokina.
